"I am right here, Pip," she said softly. "You have strong wings. Just watch me. " Mother Bird hopped to the edge of the branch. She flapped her wings—flap, flap, flap—and soared into the air. She circled back and landed right next to Pip. "Now you try," she said. "I will be right beside you. " Pip took a deep breath. He stood on his tiny bird toes.

He stretched his wings out wide. He looked at his mother and saw her happy smile. He felt brave. Pip hopped off the branch. For a tiny second, he felt like he was falling. " He flew to the next branch and landed softly. His mother flew down to join him. "I knew you could do it," she said. Pip felt very proud. He wasn't scared anymore. He was ready to see the whole wide world.
