Milo and the Little Kite

Summary

Milo was a shy little bunny who wanted to play, but he did not know how to begin. With a gentle friend, he found a kind way to help, and soon both friends were smiling.

Milo the bunny stood at the edge of the park.

Children laughed and played nearby. A red kite danced in the sky. Milo held his paws close and watched quietly.

He wanted to ask, “Can I play too?” But the words stayed small in his mouth.

Then a soft voice said, “Hello, I’m Lila.”

Milo looked up. Lila was a little duck with a yellow scarf and a kind smile.

“Would you like to fly the kite with me?” she asked.

Milo nodded a tiny nod.

Lila gave him one end of the string. “We can do it together,” she said.

Milo held the string carefully. Lila ran a few happy steps. The kite rose higher and higher.

Milo smiled. It felt nice to help.

Then the string slipped a little from Lila’s wing.

“Oh no,” she said softly.

Milo gently held the string steady with both paws. “I can help,” he said.

Lila beamed. “Thank you, Milo.”

They watched the kite float in the warm sky. Milo felt his shyness grow smaller and smaller.

Soon he said, “Can I run with the kite too?”

Lila nodded. “Yes, please!”

So Milo ran a little. Lila ran a little. The kite bounced and glided above them like a bright red cloud.

They laughed together.

When the sun began to lower, Milo and Lila sat on the grass side by side.

“I’m glad I met you,” Milo said.

“I’m glad you helped me,” said Lila.

Milo smiled at the happy sky.

He had made a friend. And best of all, they had helped each other.
