Once upon a time, there was a tiny kitten named Pip. Pip had soft grey fur and big green eyes. When the sun went down and the moon came up, Pip felt a little bit nervous. He saw a big, long shape on the wall. "Oh my! " Pip whispered. "What is that? " He hid under his fuzzy blue blanket. Then, his mama came in.

"What's wrong, little Pip? " she asked softly. Pip pointed at the shadow. Mama smiled and turned on a small lamp. The big shadow was just Pip's stuffed bunny sitting on the chair! Mama showed Pip how to make a butterfly shadow with his paws. Pip giggled. Now he knew that shadows were just shapes made by light. Pip curled up, gave a big yawn, and fell fast asleep in the cozy, quiet dark.
